Gateway 97.8 is the station name for your local community radio station based in the heart of Basildon’s Eastgate Centre. It’s for you if you can tune in and hear it, for you are living, working or driving in its reception area. It’s also for you if you listen on the internet, on this website, wherever in the world you are. It brings the sounds of home to people near and far, brings the latest local news, views and local movers and shakers. It keeps you informed of walks and talks, gigs and concerts, local traffic and travel, markets, sports and the local weather outlook. And it also plays great music. Gateway 97.8 reflects the interests, tastes, backgrounds, cares and concerns of our wonderfully vibrant communities. It introduces new ideas and new music, but never forgets to keep a caring and critical eye on the activities of politicians, local and national wherever they affect us. Indeed, we seek to provide a forum at which politicians can be held to account: an opportunity for you to express your hopes and concerns. Above all, Gateway 97.8 represents the myriad voices, tastes and expectations of our communities in this wonderfully vibrant part of Essex. We also run a Saturday morning Radio Club, which provides young people from the borough with the opportunity to learn about radio and even broadcast their own show!
